'Wannabe Weavers' - Beginners Courses

TUTOR: Sue Dwyer
21 January 2006 onwards - 6 x 1 day sessions, 10.00am to 4.00pm
Thanks to our recent National Lottery 'Awards for All' grant, brand new 8 shaft Louët looms were available for use at these workshops. Yarns were purchased at the workshop for a small charge.

Blackjack Weaving Group

Led by Sue Dwyer
Experimental weaving using a card game designed by the legendary weaver, Ann Sutton.

In January 2006 we began a bimonthly 'Blackjack Weaving Group' which is still ongoing. Just for fun, and to build on our creativity and weaving knowledge, we use Ann Sutton's weaving card game idea from her book 'Ideas in Weaving'. We hope to go on attracting lots of weavers, no matter how experienced, to come along and join in.

The meetings last for one to two hours and a small charge is made to cover the use of the premises. Players are dealt a hand of two or three different 'weaving suggestion' cards. We all discuss each person's hand of cards and come up with help and ideas for possible weaves. We each produce a sample, based on our individual hand of cards - at home and in-between meetings. We each donate the sample produced to the workshop so that a book about the 'Blackjack Weaving Group' can be put together to inspire other weavers in the future.

Navajo Weaving

TUTOR: Hannelore Cole from California
18, 19 & 20 September
Hannelore has taught weaving all her life and has a special interest in Navajo weaving. The workshop taught us how to assemble a simple Navajo loom and then to warp and weave in the classic style. The loom was then ours to take home.

Bespoke Beginner Weavers' Course

Monday 9th - Friday 13th October 2006

A special 'one-off' week for beginners. Others may be arranged in the future.
B&B and self-catering accommodation arranged if required.

All enquiries - please contact Sue Dwyer c/o the above address or email courses@devonweaversworkshop.org

Passementerie Workshop

TUTOR: Anna Crutchley
22, 23 & 24 October 2006, 10am - 4pm
Anna Crutchley trained in constructed textiles and now runs her own business making bespoke furnishing trimmings. She is the author of several books on making passementerie.

During the course students wove narrow braids on a four shaft loom using very fine sewing cotton. Emphasis was on the edges, making them decorative with fringes whilst weaving.

Spinning Group

A group of spinners meet fortnightly on Friday mornings at the workshop. They are always on the look-out for new members, experienced or beginners, to join their group.

Please contact Liffy at contact@devonweaversworkshop.org for further details.
