Workshops & Courses 2017

All courses will be held at:-
Devon Weavers Workshop, 8 Coombe Park, Ashprington, Totnes, Devon TQ9 7DY
10am to 4pm

Our courses run from 10am to 4pm, with tea and coffee provided free of charge. On weekdays a sandwich van visits the site. We can supply a list of recommended local hotels, B&Bs and self-catering accommodation if required. Totnes mainline rail station and bus station are less than 10 minutes drive away from the Workshop and lifts for students from these and/or their chosen accommodation during our courses can be arranged.

 

(Please note – small additional charges for any yarns and printed materials, supplied as part of courses, may be applicable. These will be kept to a minimum and charged at cost. Costs will be notified to participants before the commencement of any course.)

Our beginners' courses are designed to give you practical, hands-on experience of hand loom weaving, including all the stages of setting up a loom. At the end of the course you will have woven a small sample and a scarf out of a beautiful wool and silk yarn. We cover a range of techniques and you will have the chance to talk to a number of weavers about their particular specialisms.

Jette Vandermeiden

SCANDINAVIAN WEAVES

Jette Vandermeiden has been creating textiles since early childhood. Studying weaving, embroidery, knitting and bobbin lace at college led her to find her strength in weave theory, structure and design of cloth. With her extensive knowledge of fibre related topics, Jette has been a consultant to museums, documentary researchers, and developers of weaving curriculum for college fibre arts programs. A prolific writer and teacher, Jette has conducted classes and workshops across Canada, USA, England, Holland and Belgium and is a regular columnist for Fibre Focus. She weaves damask and Scandinavian weaves on her drawlooms, and volunteers at the Ontario Science Center, working on the Jacquard loom.
