Kay Balmforth

I learned to weave at Dartington in the 80s, having first trained as a graphic designer in the 70s. My interest in weaving took a back seat for many years until we set up the Workshop in 2005.

I regularly attend the Workshop where I weave and help with mentoring new weavers. I sometimes ikat-dye my weaving yarns with indigo and sell my handwoven textiles at Workshop exhibitions and events.

Having spent many years exploring the enormous range of possibilities in structure and design that weaving offers, I am currently concentrating on deflected double weave using a wide range of colours in merino lambswool.

We’ve had enormous fun setting up the Workshop. It’s been, and still is, a huge adventure and we’re all amazed at the success of it.
