Begin by developing ideas through mood boards and colour exploration, then translate your concepts into striking warp-faced designs. Experiment with geometric pattern, rhythmic blocks, and the powerful effects of colour and weft variation to create cloth full of texture and light. Leave with a collection of samples, fresh inspiration, and new confidence in designing and weaving in repp.

Repp Weave: From Mood Board to Cloth
Two-Day Workshop

Discover the bold beauty of repp weave in this immersive two-day workshop designed for curious and creative weavers.

A two day workshop where we begin with design exploration with a focus is on exploring innovative design concepts and materials— creating mood boards and colour boards to generate ideas, clarify your palette, and establish a strong visual direction. Through guided exercises, you’ll consider contrast, rhythm, and proportion before translating your ideas onto the loom.

From there, you’ll develop your ideas into woven samples, exploring repp’s distinctive warp-faced structure and its potential for striking geometric pattern, rhythmic blocks, and dynamic colour interplay. By experimenting with weft thickness and colour placement, you’ll see how subtle shifts can transform the character of your cloth — from bold graphic statements to nuanced tonal surfaces rich with texture and light.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a collection of exploratory samples, practical technical knowledge, and a clear pathway from design concept to finished cloth — along with fresh inspiration for your own repp projects.

About Laura Thomas

Laura Thomas is an established woven textile artist, designer and maker specialising in producing unconventional textiles for contemporary spaces.

Since her first experience of weaving in 1996, Laura has been thoroughly absorbed by its infinite scope for exploration and experimentation.  She has a first-class degree from Birmingham City University, an MA from the Royal College of Art and two research fellowships under her belt, all in the weave discipline.  Laura established her studio practice in South Wales in 2004 and has worked on an extremely diverse range of projects spanning public art, commercial textile design, curation, artist residencies and creating work for exhibition.  Laura ‘knows’ weaving inside out, back-to-front, and this expertise is her currency.

Cancellation: refundable up to 3 months prior to the commencement, minus the £50 non-refundable deposit.
