Our beginners' courses are designed to give you practical, hands-on experience of hand loom weaving, including all the stages of setting up a loom. At the end of the course you will have woven a small sample and a scarf out of a beautiful wool and silk yarn. We cover a range of techniques and you will have the chance to talk to a number of weavers about their particular specialisms....

This 3 day comprehensive course will cover: Warping; How to read a warping draft; Good basic weaving technique; Designing warp colour patterns; Simple pick-up patterns; Designing & weaving own pick-up patterns; Lettering - weaving & designing; Slits; Knots including Rya; Adding beads using an auxiliary warp; Scribbling; Scrunching and gathering; Shibori technique; option to rewarp for Baltic-Style - 5, 7, or 9 pattern threads, and how to read the warping draft; create own pattern drafts; mixing different techniques.   Anne says: ‘I have been weaving and braiding for over 40 years and was a founder member of the Braid Society. Like many others I enjoyed ‘twiddling’ with yarns from an early age - something that our Neanderthal ancestors did as well! I have been so lucky to have discovered a craft that really motivates me. I have written two books: The Handweaver’s Pattern Book [published as The Handweaver’s Pattern Directory in the USA; & Tissage in France] and The Weaver’s Inkle Pattern Directory. I enjoy the cross-fertilisation between techniques and structures, often experimenting with transferring one technique to another construction method. When I am not weaving or braiding I am usually thinking about it and...
