Point twill repp - rep runners: A study in 4 block design using linked blocks and solid stripes. Using the same profile draft, weavers will thread an 8-shaft loom with 4 or 5 different colours, of 8/2 cotton to design a table runner. (The warping instructions and color directions will be sent upon registration.) The runner will feature a series of 4-block motifs in the centre, with a border featuring 2- block motifs in opposite colors. The border will be separated from the center designs by a solid coloured stripe of 2 colours. Weavers will use a series of Design Pages from 'An Exaltation of Blocks' designed by Rosalie Neilson. Believe it or not, there are 1,024 different 4-block designs. Weavers will receive enough designs in their handouts to whet their creative appetites! Rosalie Neilson loves using colour and geometric design in her weaving, her specialty being rep weave. An avid designer and teacher, she was featured in the 2-hour DVD by Interweave Press called 'Rep Weave'. She publishes regularly in weaving and braiding journals and maintains an active teaching schedule throughout the United States and Canada. This will be the third time she has taught in England. Her...

Like many others I enjoyed ‘twiddling’ with yarns from an early age - something that our Neanderthal ancestors did as well! I have been so lucky to have discovered a craft that really motivates me. I have written two books: The Handweaver’s Pattern Book [published as The Handweaver’s Pattern Directory in the USA; & Tissage in France] and The Weaver’s Inkle Pattern Directory. I enjoy the cross-fertilisation between techniques and structures, often experimenting with transferring one technique to another construction method. When I am not weaving or braiding I am usually thinking about it and...

Inlay gives an almost complete freedom of design as yarn is laid in by hand to create the design areas in a plain weave ground. A variety of inlay techniques, which make different patterns and intensities of colour, will be sampled before designing a scarf or hanging. Emphasis will be placed on techniques to perfect plain weave, good selvedges and crisp inlay. The course will begin by warping and threading the loom using warps prepared at home, and will include a demonstration of cloth finishing. Sue Hiley Harris was born in Australia and studied fine art before her move to Britain. She became interested in hand spinning and weaving and studied for the Bradford Diploma in Handloom Weaving. In 1981 she moved to Wales, began to research silk fibres and to weave distinctive garments using spun silk yarn and plain weave with inlay and small areas of tapestry design detail in hand spun silk. In the late 1990s she began to create free-hanging and free-standing three-dimensional sculptures in materials including linen, hemp, wire and nylon monofilament. After receiving a Creative Wales Award from the Arts Council of Wales in 2013 her materials now...
