Repp Weave: From Mood Board to Cloth
Two-Day Workshop
Discover the bold beauty of repp weave in this immersive two-day workshop designed for curious and creative weavers.
A two day workshop where we begin with design exploration with a focus is on exploring innovative design concepts and materials— creating mood boards and colour boards to generate ideas, clarify your palette, and establish a strong visual direction. Through guided exercises, you’ll consider contrast, rhythm, and proportion before translating your ideas onto the loom.
From there, you’ll develop your ideas into woven samples, exploring repp’s distinctive warp-faced structure and its potential for striking geometric pattern, rhythmic blocks, and dynamic colour interplay. By experimenting with weft thickness and colour placement, you’ll see how subtle shifts can transform the character of your cloth — from bold graphic statements to nuanced tonal surfaces rich with texture and light.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a collection of exploratory samples, practical technical knowledge, and a clear pathway from design concept to finished cloth — along with fresh inspiration for your own repp projects.
About Sharon
Sharon Kearley is a Textiles Artist who is driven by process and sits at the intersection of textiles disciplines.
Sharon’s handwoven cloth echoes the rhythm, presence and stories of communities past. Ephemeral and fragile, her cloth draws on the trace of the connection of people and place, alongside delicate elements of time.
Researching archive maps, forgotten paths and the rhythm of walking, she reminisces through the weaving of warp and weft, a slowing of time; a narrative that conveys the land and our connection to it.
Highlighting traditional hand weaving skills and the importance of natural materials; a need for zero waste. Her love of indigo and rust shares the tales of both people and place, marking traces in time. Her weaving poses the question of the now and its importance in shaping the future with regards to our past.
